Effective syrup for constipation, uses of Duphalac

 Duphalac (Lactulose) 66.7g/10Oml Syrup

 Read all of this information carefully before taking this medicine. This medicine has been prescribed by a doctor. The patient should not pass it on to others. 

Duphalac is a clear, viscous, colorless brownish-yellow solution (liquid) for oral administration. It containing 667 g lactulose per 1000 ml. Duphalac oral solution does not contain any excipients. but may contain small amounts of related sugars lactose, galactose, epilactose, fructose) derived from the route of synthesis.




  Composition:

 100ml Duphalac dosage contains: 66.7g lactulose U.S.P.

 Indications :

 Constipation 

  (hemorrhoids, post colonic/anal surgery). Hepatic encephalopathy (HE): It is also used in the treatment and prevention of hepatic coma or precoma.

Dosage and administration: 

 Always take Duphalac oral solution exactly as the doctor has told the patient.

 The patient may take Duphalac oral solution in diluted or undiluted form. Take the dose of lactulose in one swallow; do not hold the solution in the mouth for any length of time.

 During therapy with laxatives, it is important for you to drink sufficient amounts of fluids (1.5-2 liters, equal to 6-8 glasses) during the day. 

  In constipation, the dose is: 

 this syrup is given as a single daily dose or in two divided doses. the doctor will tell which frequency to Use. the measuring cup is used when dosing in bottles. Based upon treatment response doctor may adjust the starting dose to the maintenance dose after a few days. Several (2-3) days of treatment are needed for effective treatment.

For oral administration :

Dosing in HE (for adults only): 

Starting dose: 3 to 4 times daily 20-30 or 30-45ml.  

This dose may be adjusted by a doctor to the maintenance dose. so it achieves 2 to 3 soft stools per day.

 Pediatric population:  

The safety and efficacy of this medicine in children (newborn to 18 years of age) with HE have not been established. No data are available. 

 Elderly patients with renal or hepatic infections: 

 No special dosage recommendations exist, since systemic exposure to lactulose is negligible. No interaction studies have been performed with other medical products. 

Pregnancy and lactation

 Contraindications :

 Do not take Duphalac oral solution in: 

It is also contraindicated in Hypersensitivity to the active substance or to any of the ingredients.

Galactosaemia 

 it is also avoided in Gastrointestinal obstruction, digestive perforation, or risk of digestive perforation.


 Special warnings and precautions for use :

It is advised to consult a physician in case of: 

 Painful abdominal symptoms of the undetermined cause before the treatment is started.

The insufficient therapeutic effect after several days is recorded.
