Neuromet  (Mecobalamin )Tablets/injection

Mecobalamin is used to treat vitamin B12 deficiency which is necessary for brain  ,neurons and help in production of red blood cells. 


Composition:

 Neuromet Tablets: Each sugar-coated tablet contains: Mecobalamin ......... 500 mcg

 Neuromet Injection: Each 1ml contains Mecobalamin ..............500 meg

What is Neuromet Tablet/injection?

 Neuromet (Mecobalamin) is a vitamin B12 co-enzyme that occurs in the blood and cerebrospinal fluid.

 Mecobalamin is taken by nerve tissues more actively and extensively than other homologs of vitamin B12. Mecobalamine accelerates the synthesis of nucleic acid in bone marrow as well as promotes the maturation and division of erythroblast and heme synthesis, increasing erythrocyte (RBCs) production.  

What are the indications for Neuromet Tablet/injection

Neuromet Tablet/injections are indicated for: Peripheral neuropathy eg. diabetic, alcoholic and uraemic neuropathy) Drug-induced neuropathy ,Neurological disease.

 Symptoms of Vitamin B12 deficiency. Prolonged inadequate or incorrect nutrition (e.g. strict vegetarian diet) Malabsorption due to insufficient production of intrinsic factor Hyperchromic or Macrocytic or Megaloblastic anemia, Pernicious anemia, Addison's anemia. Congenital disorders of Vitamin B12 transport.

 What should be the dose of Neuromet Tablet/Injection?

The dose of Neuromet tablets in peripheral neuropathies in adults is 1500 mcg/day in, three divided doses and that of Neuromet Injection is 500 mcg daily intravenously or intramuscularly thrice a week. 

The dose of Neuromet Injection in Megaloblastic anemia due to Vitamin B12 deficiency in adults is 500 mcg daily intravenously or intramuscularly thrice a week, followed by a maintenance dose after two months of therapy to a single dose of 500 mcg every one to three months. For all other indications, the dose of Neuromet tablets in adults is 500 mcg three times a day or as prescribed by the physician and that of Neuromet injection is one ampoule of 500 mcg intravenously or intramuscularly thrice a week or as prescribed by the physician. What are the contraindications of Neuromet Tablet/injection? Do not take Neuromet Tablet/injections ,if patient have allergic reactions. 

What are the adverse effects of Neuromet Tablet/injection? 

Like all medicines, Neuromet Tablet/Injections can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. In parenteral administration, individual cases of acne, eczematous and urticarial drug reactions as well as anaphylactic reactions have been reported under therapy with hydroxocobalamin /cyanocobalamin (pharmaceutically used provitamin forms). There are no such reports for methylcobalamin in this connection. Pain and hardening can occasionally occur around the injection site.

  Contact doctor at once if the following effects happen: Oral: Anorexia, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.

 Parenteral: Rash, headache, hot sensation, and pain induration at injection site If  notice any other side effects not listed, please tell a doctor or pharmacist.
